Voters pick Rhyne in special election

Lincolnton will have a Republican on its City Council for the first time.

Devin Rhyne won a special election Tuesday against Democrat Fred Houser. Unofficial election results indicate Rhyne won 511 votes to 433 for Houser.

Unpleasant odor surrounds West Lincoln High School

A local farmer fertilizing crops caused West Lincoln High School to be surrounded with an unpleasant smell Monday.

“All they did was spray fertilizer,” said Matt Stover, principal. “It was a normal day. You couldn’t even smell it in the school.”

Serving pizza to Lincolnton for 25 years

John Gregory has whipped up recipes all his life.

For the past 25 years, the native of Greece has been cooking for Lincoln County residents and visitors at House of Pizza. He has been creating Italian dishes, made with homemade sauces, meatballs and vegetables fresh out of his garden. So far, the response from the community has been positive.

Financial woes force Captain Pete’s to close

Mike Pitsikoulis did not want to shut down his eatery, Captain Pete’s, but had no other choice.

“I never wanted to leave,” he said. “I love the place. I love the community.”
