County Hall of Fame looking for nominees
July 12, 2002 - The Lincoln County Sports Hall of Fame is again seeking nominations for inductees into the Lincoln County Sports Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame was established in August of 2000 to honor, recognize and memorialize individuals for their excellence and remarkable achievements that have
contributed to Lincoln County's rich sports history and community endeavors.
The Hall of Fame operates under the authority of a Board of Directors composed of twelve members from across Lincoln County.
The Board of Directors are the following: Henry Barkley; Bob Beal, Jr.; Tim Biggerstaff; Steve Bracket; Max Garner; Erma Dean Hoyle; Roby Jetton; Jim Mundy;
Mike Powell; Stanley Roseboro; Betty Ross and Ben Yount.
The executive committee has announced the 2002 banquet will be held on November 9, 2002 at the Lincoln County Citizens Center. Nominations need to be returned
to the committee by August 1, 2002. Nomination forms may be picked up at the Recreation Center, Betty Ross Park; Lincoln County Public Libraries (Lincolnton, East Lincoln,
and West Lincoln) or from one of the board members.
Qualifications for Hall of Fame candidates include:
(1) Resident or former resident of Lincoln County for at least 4 years
(2) Participant (player, coach, media representative, booster, etc.) for at least 4 years
(3) Of good character and reputation
(4) 35 years of age or deceased
(5) Having made contributions recognized as enhancing sports activities
The Hall of Fame is housed on the third floor of the Lincoln County Senior Center, 514 S. Academy Street.
Inductees are recognized with a framed photo and plaque.
From time to time, special exhibits with memorabilia from sports moments of the inductees will be displayed.
The 2001 Inductees were Bob Beal, Sr.; Norris Childers; Tony Cloninger; Von Ray Harris; F. D. (Jack) Kiser; A. R. (Smack) Proctor; Betty Gabriel Ross; Arnold
