West Lincoln Optimist fall sports registration

West Lincoln Optimist is holding registration for its football, fall coach-pitch, T-ball, softball and baseball leagues.

Those interested must sign up at West Lincoln Optimist with their $35 registration fee before Aug. 8.

 

Local USSSA baseball team holds tryout

A local U.S.S.S.A baseball team is having tryouts for players who will not turn 15 before Aug. 1, 2003.

East Lincoln Optimists football, fall baseball and softball sign-ups

The East Lincoln Optimists will hold sign-ups for football, fall baseball and softball on the following days: Tuesday and Thursday (6-8 p.m.) and Saturday (Aug. 3) from 9 a.m. to noon.

Boys in grades 3-6 are eligible to participate for football. The cost is $65.

For baseball (boys ages 9-18), and softball (girls ages 9-15) the cost is $65 for ages 9 to 12 and $75 for ages 13-18.

Sign-ups for all of the sports will be held at the clubhouse on Optimist Club Road in Denver.

 

Rec Dept. starting a fall youth soccer league and lifeguard class

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Parks and Recreation Department is taking registration for a youth fall soccer league.

The department is offering a lifeguard training class beginning August 5. The cost for the course is $100.00 which includes training, books, pocket mask, certification cards and use of equipment. The course will last until Aug. 17.

Lincoln County Sports Hall of Fame wants nominations

The Lincoln County Sports Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for inductees for this year.

Nomination forms can be obtained at the Recreation Center at Betty Ross Park, Lincoln County Public Library (Lincolnton, West Lincoln and East Lincoln Branches) or one of the members of the Executive Board of the Hall of Fame.

Nomination forms must be returned to the Executive Board by Thursday. 

Inductees, that are selected, will be introduced at the Lincoln County Sports Hall of Fame banquet to be held on November 9.

 

Shuford YMCA is holding a free soccer clinic and sign ups fall sports

A soccer clinic will be conducted at the Shuford YMCA on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon.   The clinic will be conducted by the Newton-Conover H.S. soccer Team. No registration is needed. Everyone is welcomed.  Bring your own soccer ball and come have fun!

The Shuford YMCA is also holding registration for its summer sports camps and registration for fall sports leagues.

Youth fall soccer and flag football registration will be held until August 16th.

A $5 fee will be added starting August 11. The soccer age groups offered are: Mighty Mites (3½-4), coed 5&6, coed 7&8, boys 9&10, girls 9-12 & boys 11&12.

The member and non-member fee for the Mighty Mites is $30 and $45, all other groups are $35 and $52.

 The fee includes a complete soccer uniform (jersey, shorts & socks) for ages 5& up and an award.

Flag football age groups will be ages 6-8 and 9-11. The fee will be $35 for members and $52 for non-members. The fee includes jersey and award.

Adult flag football registration will begin Thursday. The team fee is $350. Forms can be picked up now. The league will be open to the first 12 teams.

 

Gaston Rec accepting requests for field usage for fall sports

Gaston County Parks & Recreation Department is now accepting requests for fall soccer/ ball field use. All teams/organizations and/or individuals hoping to use Gaston County fields in the fall of 2002.

Those persons should call the department at 704-922-2164 to request an athletic facility usage request form.

To be considered in the initial fields allocations, requests must be submitted by Wednesday. All requests received after July 31 will be allocated time as available on County Fields.

Verdict Ridge to host

women’s golf tourney

Verdict Ridge Golf and Country Club will hold the second Annual Ladies Invitational Golf Tournament August 19.

Registration is 9 a.m. the day of the tournament. Shotgun start will be at 10 a.m. Cost is $55 and will go to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Players will be pre-flighted by handicap index. Flight prizes will be awarded. One practice round will be available for each participant at a cost of $25 on Aug. 5-8 only.

First Wesleyan Church holding softball tournament

First Wesleyan Church of Lincolnton will sponsor a softball tournament Aug. 30 and 31.

There is a $100 entry fee, following USSSA rules. There’s  a five home run limit per team, everything after five is out. Only .47 Core ball is accepted, no ASA balls.

For the home run derby there is a minimum of 15 batters for the grand prize of a new bat valued at $100-$254. There is a $10 entry fee for this, you provide the balls.

Trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place teams, tournament MVP, and team sportsmanship.
